Nites TV no more, but alternatives exist

Nites TV has met its inevitable end after growing concerns over user safety, and copyright infringement got DMCA to shut it down.

If you are dismayed at losing access to all the movies and TV shows that Nites TV promised us for free, we have explored a few alternatives that may you cheer up.

Before we go into listing a few of such options though, we would like to clarify that by no means would we advise or encourage our readers to stream content illegally. Please use this information wisely with sound judgment and with awareness (and in compliance) of your local laws

Now that we have the disclaimer out of our way, lets dig in.

AZM is a website similar to Nites TV that has popped up recently, that streams the latest movies in HD for free. It has a vibrant catalog that includes popular foreign language movies from across Asia, apart from your usual Hollywood suspects.

While AZM specializes in only HD movies, its sister site Noxx has all the TV shows you want.

AZM is truly a copy of Nites TV in terms of how the site looks like, and how it functions by hosting multiple streaming platforms on its servers. Even its copyright disclaimer sounds notoriously similar.

“Disclaimer: No copyrighted or illegal content is hosted on this website. all content is hosted on non-affiliated third-party websites.”

Thus the legal and safety concerns with this site are similar to that of Nites TV. If you are worried, we have addressed these legal and safety concerns in detail here.

Tubi TV

If you are concerned about your safety and don’t want to risk legal action by accessing your content through sites whose legitimacy is under doubt, but still paying for content is not an option, then Tubi TV is an alternative you may want to explore.

Tubi is an ad-supported video-on-demand service with over 20,000 movies and television shows from major Hollywood studios.

Tubi is available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and can be accessed on over 25 devices – the most of any ad-supported video-on-demand service, if their claim is to be believed.

This is a media platform that allows you to watch movies, series, YouTube channels instantly. You can watch a wide variety of content in HD, with subtitles. It mostly works on the peer-to-peer video sharing concept.

What makes its library super-rich is it sources its content directly from legit streaming platforms like Netflix Filmon, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and so on. It also allows you to cast on your preferred screen using DLNA, Chromecast, or AppleTV.

It also comes with an add-on that lets you stream torrents. The freemium version has limited functions, obviously, but you can get full access with a one time fee.

Popcorn Time

This multi-platform service is a mecca for endless streamable videos. It is open-source, and hence free. It runs on a program that fetches torrents directly from the swarm and thus there’s hardly a cap to how much you can stream on it.

It also supports HD viewing, and comes with multilingual subtitles and dubs. The best thing is that it runs on almost any operating system – Windows, Mac, Android, Linux and even Android TV.

Its endless catalog can get overwhelming to use, but if you know what you are looking for, this is the best free opensource streaming service out there.
It has a long-standing history of being resilient to government regulations, and keep making comebacks, whenever taken down.

Out of all the alternatives we explored, this one seemed to have the most refreshing take on movie streaming. Zion is an app-only-based streaming platform that promises the latest popular TV shows and movies available across OTT platforms in one space.

It is specifically designed for android TV and hence supports most casting devices. It gives you access to torrent services like Debrid so you can download, stream and cast simultaneously on your home device.

It also supports subtitles that you can directly search from its third-party library, and also allows to you pick up where you left off.

The catch is that all of this is only available for free if you join their Zion Club, and right now they are running promotions for a free lifetime membership if you share TvZion links with your friends.

Perhaps, this one is also a more legit-sounding approach to making its free-to-watch library accessible.

Nites TV is not working; Can it comeback?

Nites TV, the free video streaming platform that boasted of an ad-free watching experience in HD, has been taken down. It is still the top search result on Google but the content is completely different.

If you go to the site now, all you will see is this ‘takedown’ notice from ‘Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment’.

Does Nites TV APK still work?

If you thought you could work around this ban by simply downloading the Nites TV apk, save your effort. The app isn’t functional either. The moment you download and install it on your android device, it gives you the same notice as above.

What is Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment?

The notice informs us that the “Website is no longer available due to copyright infringement” before sharing ‘How to watch legally’ by redirecting us to ‘Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment’ homepage.

It lists a bunch of legal streaming services like Hulu, Netflix and Disney +, and aggregators and search tools like Flixter, JustWatch, and that help you look for your favorite content.

ACE disclaimer

According to their website, “Alliance unites today’s content creators in the common mission of helping consumers maximize their online experience and reducing the illicit and illegal acts of online piracy that harm the thriving digital ecosystem.”

Legal and safety concerns of Nites TV

Nites TV’s fate may be sad, but not really unexpected. The site catapulted to fame for both its ‘too good to be true’ proposition and its safety concerns. We had addressed everyone’s legal and safety concerns with the site in our previous article.

Copyright infringement was obviously a key issue. Even before the site was taken down, Google had started filtering the search results related to Nites.TV.

In response to multiple complaints that we received under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 5 results from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaints that caused the removals at Complaint, Complaint.”

Can Nites TV make a comeback?

Right after Nites TV site and app stopped working, folks took to social media wondering why, and of course to complain.

The makers behind Nites TV responded to user queries with this meme, hinting at a possible comeback.

Soon after they floated an online poll, asking users if they wanted Nites TV to come back, and would they be okay with a paid version of the service, or prefer to use it completely free like before, but with limited access.

Well, Nites TV is no more, but alternatives exist. Check out our feature to explore.

Is Nites TV legit? Safety concerns of free streaming

Find out if Nites TV is legitimate.

Latest movies and TV shows, with HD quality video, ad-free streaming, Chromecast-friendly and all FREE — should you give in?

When you are in quarantine thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, with no sign of the lockdown easing up, it is hard to resist.

No wonder people on social media can’t stop talking about how godsend the streaming website called Nites TV is.

What is Nites TV?

Nites TV is an ‘online service provider’ that has surfaced on the web recently, among other free to use services.

It boasts of having some of the latest movies, TV shows and web series that you’d otherwise have to pay to watch on familiar OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc.

Apart from ad-free high-quality video, Nites TV and Chromecast are also compatible.

Nites TV library: What all can you watch for free?

From showcasing most latest action flicks like Bad Boys of Life (starring Will Smith), Vin Diesel starred Bloodshot, fantasy movies like Doolittle and Birds of Prey, and going all way back to popular releases from 2013 like G.I Joe, and Fast and Furious 6, etc — Nite.TV has quite a colorful movie library.

It also has all the popular shows from the digital world like Westworld (HBO), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Netflix) and even Star Trek Picard (Amazon Original).

Again, all free. And without any ads.

Too good to be true right? Precisely why we did a bit of digging to find out how legit this site is.

How Legit Is Nites TV?

At first glance, it seems as a legit site, and even comes with Terms and Conditions, and Privacy policy etc. It describes itself as ‘an online service provider as defined in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act’

Does that mean it owns a license to stream original shows from Netflix and Amazon Prime? Quite unlikely.

It simply hosts other free-to-use video services such as Upstream, etc on its server and allows users to play the videos from those platforms from Nites TV.

“We do not actively monitor, screen or otherwise review the media which is uploaded to our servers by users of the service.”

As stated in Nites TV Terms and Conditions for the site.

A somewhat smart but not exactly novel way to get around copyright violation laws.

The biggest indicator that the website is not an authorized content distributor for the publishers is that it is streaming from multiple known pirating enabling sources.

Moreover, while testing, we also found references to ‘YIFY’, a known content piracy organization, in the website’s code. One glance at Yify’s homepage tells you that its content coincides with Nites TV.

Will you get in legal trouble for streaming on Nites TV?

Quite frankly, it depends on what region you are accessing the site from. Some places are more strict about individual piracy, but on average, the action is usually targeted at distribution platforms and not the individual users.

That being said, it is safer to mask one’s ID when accessing such sites. We do not advocate breaking law in your respective jurisdiction.

Is Nites TV safe to use?

Our initial analysis has shown no obvious security threats to users. The site’s code looks more or less clean from the browser’s end.

In short, there were no malicious codes (virus, malware) that get triggered when using the site, when we tested. It also doesn’t ask you to sign in, therefore there is hardly any threat to your personal data.

This may not last.

A common strategy for many online scams or malicious sites is to wait to load up their malicious code after the traffic level has surpassed a number of users per day.

A good way to avoid such scams or traps is never sharing your email ID etc. Even if such sites need you to log in, it’s safer to accounts and passwords that are not linked to your online banking and other confidential details.

Of course, the best way to completely avoid such security risks is to stream your favorite content on official distributing platforms.
